Following the publication of the Marine Ireland Industry Network (MIIN) Feasibility Study in November 2026, work has been progressing to develop a more formal, industry-led cluster for Ireland’s marine and maritime sector, building on the network, relationships and industry engagement established through MIIN over more than a decade.

The study set out a roadmap for this transition, and a number of important milestones have since been reached. Most notably, Marine Ireland Industry Cluster CLG was incorporated in May 2026, providing an independent, industry-led structure through which the next stage of cluster development can be progressed. The founding Board has also been established following an expression-of-interest process open to MIIN members.

An application for a Priming Grant under Enterprise Ireland’s Smart Regions Enterprise Innovation Scheme has also progressed through the evaluation process. If successful, the funding would support an initial 12-month programme of cluster development, including dedicated Cluster Development Manager capacity and work to further develop MIIC’s strategy, operating model, member services and opportunities for industry collaboration.

These developments are strongly driven by the industry MIIN members, and we are grateful to the MIIN member companies and organisations that have contributed their time, expertise and financial support to date.

The network, relationships and industry connections developed through MIIN remain an important part of the cluster’s future foundation, and the aim is to create an even stronger platform for collaboration, shared opportunity and industry-led action across Ireland’s marine and maritime sectors.

There is more work to be done as the model develops, and further updates and opportunities to engage will be shared in the coming months.
