Consultation on Ireland's Marine Strategy Part 2: Monitoring Programmes (Article 11) under the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD, 2008/56/EC)

The Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment has launched a public consultation on the next update to Ireland's Marine Strategy – Part 2: Monitoring Programmes under the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). The consultation focuses on how Ireland monitors the health of its marine environment, ensuring robust scientific evidence is available to assess environmental status, identify emerging pressures and measure progress towards achieving Good Environmental Status (GES). The updated monitoring programme will support improved understanding of issues such as biodiversity, marine litter, underwater noise, contaminants and the impacts of climate change, while helping to guide future marine management and policy decisions. Marine stakeholders, researchers, industry and the wider public are encouraged to have their say before the consultation closes.
