From electric boats for inshore surveys to innovations in underwater monitoring - Meet Teal Marine Technologies

MIIC member and supporter, Teal Marine Technologies, is a new Ireland-based company operating out of Ballydehob in West Cork. Focussed on building rugged hulls, marine equipment and robotic devices from HDPE material the company has in house CAD, CNC machining and welding capabilities.

Only two years old, Teal has already had some successful projects and deliveries to customers ranging from small unmanned catamaran craft, rugged dock boxes, custom tanks and components through to a protoype 5metre electric craft.

With support from the Marine Institute the company has been developing an innovative underwater monitoring device called the RopeRover and looking at the feasibility of electric boats for inshore survey work.

Founded by engineer Dannel Basic with support from Dan Hook the company puts a strong emphasis on building products that will last a long time and can be responsibly recycled at the end of a long working life.

Dannel trained as a CNC engineer in the aeronautic industry before moving to Ireland and finding his love for sailing and working at local boat yards. He is a passionate designer and builder with a real focus on practicality and supplying things that can be used and maintained easily.

Dan trained as a Naval Architect and has been a pioneer in the unmanned marine vehicle industry having co-founded a company called ASV before becoming CTO of a large marine tech company called Ocean Infinity. He is currently also the CEO of an electric propulsion and controls company called RAD and splits his time between West Cork and the UK.

Teal is keen to work with Irish marine businesses on co-development, rapid prototyping and tendering for International projects.  Contact: dannel@tealtech.ie  or visit www.tealtech.ie
