26/09/2025 — DNV, the global independent expert in risk management, certification and classification, today confirms that Dublin Offshore’s Design for its innovative Load Reduction Device (LRD) has been officially approved in accordance with the requirements of DNV-SE-0422 Certification of floating wind turbines. This milestone positions Dublin Offshore at the forefront of mooring technology innovation.
DNV was selected by Dublin Offshore, a UK and Ireland marine technology company pioneering solutions for floating offshore wind, to provide independent certification of the Design of the Load Reduction Device (LRD). The LRD is a novel mooring component designed to mitigate dynamic mooring and platform loads, helping to reduce costs and risk in the deployment of floating offshore wind.
DNV-SE-0422 is widely recognised across the floating wind industry as a key framework for ensuring safety, reliability, and quality in design verification. Its use underlines DNV’s ongoing commitment to supporting the rapid growth of floating offshore wind, including through continuous refinement of service documents and participation in joint industry projects that develop shared standards for mooring, load management, and floating technologies.
The scope of the certification included mechanical design, structural analysis, fatigue analysis, corrosion protection, bearing system design, and installation analysis. Design review was carried out in accordance with the requirements of DNV-SE-0422, DNV-ST-0119 Floating wind turbine structures and the functional requirements identified in the DNV-approved Design Basis. Following this thorough evaluation, DNV has issued a Statement of Compliance, affirming that Dublin Offshore’s LRD Design meets the standard’s high expectations for safety, resilience, and quality assurance.
This achievement builds on the Statement of Feasibility and Design Basis Statement of Compliance issued by DNV earlier this year for Dublin Offshore’s LRD. Together, these validations provide strong independent assurance of the LRD’s innovative approach to mitigating dynamic loads, and they establish a clear pathway toward full certification in line with international offshore standards.
“Securing DNV-SE-0422 approval for the LRD Design significantly boosts confidence in our engineering approach,” said Tom Doyle, Director, Dublin Offshore. “This achievement validates our commitment to engineering excellence and provides a clear pathway for product delivery and project execution.”
DNV highlighted Dublin Offshore's robust methodology and commitment to independent verification as key strengths in its assessment. “We are pleased to recognise Dublin Offshore’s dedication to a structured, transparent design process, fully aligned with DNV-SE-0422,” stated Claudio Bittencouort, DNV Project Manager. “Such rigor is crucial for managing emerging marine technologies and ensuring stakeholder confidence.”
With this latest approval, Dublin Offshore enhances its technological credibility and opens new pathways for partnerships and project execution in offshore energy and maritime sectors. The company looks forward to extending this collaboration with DNV as it advances toward final certification milestones.
