Women in Shipping bound for Northern Ireland

6th March 2025

A group representing women in the shipping and trading sector has flourished for 51 years since its inception in 1974 in a London pub. But last week saw the Women in Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) launch for the first time in Northern Ireland.

Recently established Northern Ireland Maritime and Offshore group (NIMO) invited WISTA secretary Gina Panayiotou to launch the organisation here at an event hosted by the Belfast Harbour Commissioners.

“We were very pleased to welcome Gina to Belfast at an opportune time which marks International Women’s Day but also now that increasing numbers of women are entering previously male-dominated sectors,” says Kerry Muldoon, director of NIMO.
