Senior Marine Ornithologist/Head of Orthnithology

Ondine are a growing Irish offshore survey company, owning modern assets in both marine and aerial survey. This is an opportunity to join a friendly, modern team of scientists who are aiming to achieve best in class survey data and results. You will report directly to the Survey Director.

Remote and flexible working are available, as well as an opportunity to work in one of Ondine’s offices based in Ireland if desired.

About the Role:

You will be leading the ornithology team with an aim of producing high quality ecological reports based on aerial survey data. The role will involve:

  • Utilising your previous knowledge and experience to lead the ornithology ID team
  • Manage aerial ecology projects and teams involved.
  • Improve current in-house processes, as well as develop new workflows.
  • Input to commercial development when required including tender production.
  • Oversee the production of a catalogue of bird/mammal images for reference and internal training.
  • Train new ornithologists in aerial marine identification and report writing.
  • Drive the team towards generating high quality ecological baseline survey reports.
  • Input insight for automation of statistical data generation and outputs.
  • Liaise and keep updated with relevant stakeholders.
  • Remain familiar with changing guidance on baseline ecological surveys.
  • Work along side the data team and aerial acquisition team to provide feedback in the production of high-quality aerial imagery.

About You:

Essential:

  • Educated to a minimum of undergraduate degree in Ecology/Biology/Environmental Science/Zoology/Natural Sciences
  • Computer literate
  • Strong leadership capability and the ability to manage a large team
  • Enthusiasm to develop Ondine’s ecology department

Desirable:

  • Masters or PhD degree in a marine ecology related field
  • >10 years work experience in a related field
  • Previous direct work experience in an aerial ecology/ornithology role
