Atlas of the unseen brings Ireland’s deep sea wonders into the light

Congratulations to the Marine Institute’s Advanced Mapping Services / INFOMAR Seabed Mapping's Fabio Sacchetti (PhD) and University College Cork's Marine Geoscience Research Group which includes Dr Mohit Tunwal, Dr. Riccardo Arosio and Prof Andy Wheeler, on their work mapping Ireland’s deep-sea geomorphology, featured in The Irish Times.
Building on seabed data collected through INFOMAR and its predecessor, the Irish National Seabed Survey, this work brings together detailed interpretations of submarine canyons, extinct volcanoes and traces of past glaciations.
It’s a great example of the continuing value of public seabed mapping data, supporting research, marine planning and the protection of Ireland’s marine environment.
