Post-Doctoral Researcher / Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher - School of Biological, Earth, and Environmental Sciences
30 Months Fixed Term, Whole-time Post
The postdoctoral researcher / senior postdoctoral researcher will modify an existing GIS-based multicriteria decision support tool in order to designate optimal areas for offshore windfarm development from Clew Bay to the north coast of the island of Ireland to the northern Irish Sea. Building on a model for NW Ireland, the researcher will collate all available spatial datasets of relevance to offshore windfarm development, standardise within a GIS, and consolidate into combined datasets through expert weighted or numerical modelling. Further weightings will be undertaken through a stakeholder-driven Analytic Hierarchical Process or similar. New MOSAIC-generated megafaunal distribution data will be showcased in the mode with its impact qualified. Liaison with government and stakeholder agencies in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (UK) will ensure policy relevant outputs.
The candidate should be proficient in GIS and Python with, ideally, a familiarity with the offshore windfarm sector and marine geomatics.
