The SFPA is seeking a Senior Port Officer to join its established team in Howth and play a key role within the Authority. The Senior Port Officer plays a key leadership role in ensuring the effective delivery of SFPA’s sea-fisheries control and food safety functions at port level. Based in Howth, the role carries significant responsibility for operational management, regulatory compliance, data integrity and the delivery of SFPA’s statutory objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will take a lead role in:
• The day-to-day operational management and coordination of local Operational matters.
• The efficient and effective performance of the Authority’s Sea-Fisheries Operations programme (Fisheries Control and Food Safety) objectives and outputs within the terms of the Authority’s Strategy and Annual Business Plan.
• To be accountable for, manage and oversee the efficient and effective collection of fish catch and fishing effort statistics for quota, effort management and policy purposes.
• Reporting to and advising the Authority on operational matters and the delivery of SFPA’s objectives.
• The implementation of all relevant EU and National legislation in relation to Food Safety and Fisheries Control and Conservation.
• The collection, collation and checking of all fish catch statistics including data gathered from EU fishing logbooks, sales notes and other data sources.
• Ensuring that the contractual commitments and responsibilities of the SFPA to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland are met and delivered.
• Supporting the EU missions on Fisheries Conservation and Control and Food Safety in your area.
• Enforcing all relevant present and future EU and National legislation in relation to Food Safety and Fisheries Control and
Conservation.
• Acting as an authorised officer for the purposes of exercising all the powers available to authorised officers under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act 1998.
