FAO's global emploment statistics for the primary sectors of fisheries and aquaculture are now available in FishStat

The new collection provides annual statistics on the number of fishers and fish farmers from 1995 to 2024, with data by country or area, working domain, working time status and sex.

It covers aquaculture and several marine and inland fishing domains, offering a new way to explore who works in the primary fisheries and aquaculture sector and where.

Part of FishStat, FAO’s longest-running statistical time series, the employment collection can now be browsed, queried, filtered, grouped and aggregated through the FishStatJ app.

FAO will continue improving the employment data, with the aim of expanding coverage to additional working domains and earlier time periods.
