Vacancy | Fish veterinary surgeon, MOWI Ireland

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced veterinary surgeon to join the health and welfare team at Mowi Ireland.

The successful candidate will join Mowi health team, currently composed of a health team manager and several biologists looking after the health and welfare of all Mowi Ireland farmed salmon and cleaner fish stocks. The new fish veterinarian will work closely with the Area and site production Managers in the west and south-west of Ireland. This offers a great opportunity for experienced animal health professionals.

The successful applicant will report to our Fish Health Manager.

Role description:

• Visits to Mowi production sites as a prescribing veterinary surgeon and in health advisor capacity.
• Clinical examination of fish, diagnostic sampling, biosecurity assessment, basic field epidemiology and providing strategic advice to Mowi operations.
• Contribution to the management of clinical services in compliance with all necessary governmental, corporate, and certification regulations.
• Writing prescriptions for medicinal treatments when required.
• Provision of fish health and welfare training to the team including health observers on site, production staff and new recruits.
• Project work including retrospective review of disease or performance issues on farms, involvement in clinical trials and research collaborations with industry and academic partners.
• Expectation to participate and positively contribute towards decision making with respect to regional health issues.

Role requirements:

• Applicants should hold a veterinary degree, recognised in Ireland and post-graduate experience or a qualification in fish health and welfare is strongly desirable.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Word, Excel) is essential and ability/experience using databases/informatics in production animal health strongly desirable.
• As extensive travelling is a feature of the job, a current driving licence is essential.
