Irish Lights is recruiting for a Senior Operations Officer (Chief Officer) for a challenging and rewarding role on board its multi-purpose DP 1 vessel, Granuaile. 

ILV Granuaile’s primary duties involve the maintenance of floating and fixed Aids to Navigation. Over the ships’ 26 years in operation, she has also successfully completed a wide range of offshore contracts, including subsea operations.  

As Senior Operations Officer, the successful candidate will be the Master’s principal assistant, responsible for deck department leadership, vessel operations, safety management, security and the effective supervision of deck crew. 

The successful candidate will possess leadership and management skills, a proactive approach to operational planning, together with an ability to maintain high standards across navigation, safety and deck operations. They will also have experience in co-ordinating, communicating and organising the smooth transfer of operations during crew changes, of which there are circa six per annum. 

To be successful the candidates must hold: 

  • A valid STCW Unlimited Masters Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Equivalent Competency
  • A valid Full or Restricted DP Operator certificate
  • Valid STCW basic and advanced safety training, including:
    • Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
    • Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (not Fast Rescue Craft)
    • Sea Survival Techniques
    • Onboard Medical Care
  • A valid GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate.
  • A valid ENG11 or equivalent medical fitness certificate.
  • A full, valid Driving Licence
