About the Business

P&O Maritime Logistics (POML) is a global company providing specialist maritime service solutions through ownership, operation and management of a fleet of specialized vessels. In Ireland, POML operates two research vessels on behalf of the Marine Institute, the Celtic Explorer and the Tom Crean.

The Company are currently seeking to recruit an Instrumentation & IT Technician reporting to the Instrumentation and IT Manager.

About the Role

The Instrumentation & IT Technician is responsible for the delivery of scientific and survey instrumentation support services ashore & onboard the Marine Institute Research Vessels. The role also involves the support of IT & communication equipment. The role requires the operation, upkeep, maintenance and repair of scientific instrumentation on board vessels and in the equipment pool. This role is part office and part sea going (approx. 120 days at sea). Normal working hours are varied depending on working ashore or at sea. This role will require significant amounts of time at sea during the year.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronics and/or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in repair and maintenance of complex electronic instrumentation and equipment
  • Full EU/EEA drivers’ license
  • Ability to operate as part of a team
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Desirable

  • Experience in the marine sector or related industries
  • Seagoing experience
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation used for marine surveys
  • Experience of Desktop support in network environment
