P&O Maritime Services Ireland Ltd. operates two research vessels on behalf of the Marine Institute, the Celtic Explorer and the Tom Crean in Ireland. The global company provides specialist maritime service solutions through ownership, operation and management of a fleet of specialised vessels for customers’ long-term requirements. The Company are currently seeking to recruit a Graduate Instrumentation & IT Technician reporting to the Instrumentation and IT Manager.

Primary Objective
The Graduate Instrumentation & IT Technician will work under the supervision of more experienced staff. The Instrumentation & IT department is responsible for the delivery of scientific and survey instrumentation support services ashore & onboard the Marine Institute Research Vessels. The role also involves the support of IT & communication equipment. The role requires the operation, upkeep, maintenance and repair of scientific instrumentation on board vessels and in the equipment pool. This role is part office and part sea going (approx. 120 days at sea).

Qualifications and Experience
 

Essential
• Degree in Electronics, Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronics and/or Mechanical Engineering
• Full EU/EEA drivers’ license
• Ability to operate as part of a team
• Computer literate, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
 

Desirable
• Experience with hand & test tools
• Seagoing experience, sailing or day boats
• Competent with PC hardware, IT peripherals and software upgrades
Normal working hours are varied depending on working ashore or at sea. This role will require significant amounts of time at sea during the year.
