Irwin Carr provides professional acoustic and environmental consulting services. We work with a range of planning consultants, architects, engineers and industry on numerous noise & air quality projects throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. We also develop and distribute software for sale throughout the world.

Job Description

We are seeking a Graduate Consultant who is keen to develop their interest in both underwater noise monitoring and predicting noise modelling. The successful candidate will lead the development of a new product for the company which will strategically place Irwin Carr as one of the leading acoustic consultancies in Europe.

The role presents a great opportunity to enhance the existing Irwin Carr capabilities with your own experience and knowledge and to play a part in growing the wider consultancy practice. Duties include:

  • Collation of underwater noise measurements across several locations.
  • Development of an interface between hardware and dBSea to collect real-time data.
  • Development and validation of the additional dBSea functionality.
  • Undertake consultancy work in the area of marine consultancy.
  • Maintain the technical and professional standards of the company.
  • Assist with other consultants when required to do so.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Atlantic Technical University- Galway (ATU) and will also have the opportunity to avail of a Post Graduate Diploma with Queen’s University Belfast as part of the employment offering.

Essential Criteria

  • Honours Degree (minimum 2.2, but 2.1 or higher is desirable) in the following disciplines: Science and Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Candidates should hold a full clean driving license with access to a vehicle for business purposes.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Northern Ireland/UK and travel within the EU; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Northern Ireland/UK you must upload a copy of it with your application.

Desirable Criteria

  • Proficient user of GIS, or other related software.
  • Strong level of technical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a workload, have flexibility to deal with work demands and work within a team.
  • A confident and motivated approach to problem-solving.
  • Candidates should have good skills in experimental design and statistical analysis.
  • Experience of recording and analysing acoustic data is desirable.
