Job title: Instrumentation and IT Technician

Job location: Part office (Galway office) and part seagoing (Celtic Explorer/Tom Crean)

Contract type: Full-Time

About the Role:

The Instrumentation & IT Technician is responsible for the delivery of scientific and survey instrumentation support services ashore & onboard the Marine Institute Research Vessels. The role also involves the support of IT & communication equipment. The role requires the operation, upkeep, maintenance and repair of scientific instrumentation on board vessels and in the equipment pool. This role is part office and part sea going.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Tertiary qualifications in Electronics, Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering
• Experience in planning and execution of marine surveys e.g., hydrographic, geological, geophysical
• Experience in the marine sector or related industries
• Seagoing experience
• Working knowledge of instrumentation used for marine surveys
• Experience in working with complex electronic instrumentation and equipment
• Experience or working in Teams
• Computer literate, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Experience of Desktop support in network environment

Normal working hours are varied depending on working ashore or at sea. This role will require significant amounts of time at sea during the year.
