Funding Appeal: Raven KASTER Miniboat Relaunch

The Raven KASTER Miniboat project are appealing to contacts in the Irish marine industry to help with funding their relaunch of their miniboat in Ireland in late August 2023.
The Raven KASTER Miniboat Project started in a Junior High School in Conception Bay South (CBS), Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and are working in collaboration with Coláiste Pobail Acla, Achill Island, Co. Mayo, for the relaunch.
About the project
In 2018, Stephanie Evans and Kaitlyn Grandy were in Grade 8 at Frank Roberts Junior High when they launched their miniboat, the Raven KASTER, into the Atlantic Ocean. The purpose of this project was to engage students in learning more about our ocean. In 2019, the miniboat landed in Achill Island.
Now, in 2023, they are working with schools in CBS and Achill to relaunch the Raven KASTER – and they need your help.
They are coordinating the project with Educational Passages and the School of Ocean Technology at the Fisheries and Marine Institute in St. John’s.
There is also a dedicated group of students in Frank Roberts Junior High and Queen Elizabeth Regional High in Conception Bay South that are working as part of the team on the Raven KASTER relaunch project. The CBS students will be collaborating with other students in Achill Island, at Coláiste Pobail Acla on the Raven KASTER relaunch project.
They have an urgent need of funding for the repair and refit of the miniboat. Thanks to the generosity of the Northeast Avalon Rotary Club, they have already secured partial funding for the repairs/refit and are looking for help with the rest. They are also working to raise money for their visit to Ireland in August to officially relaunch the Raven KASTER.
The school in Ireland is waiting for us to buy the required supplies and technology for the miniboat, which includes hardware, a new sail, GPS, sensors (air, water and orientation) and possibly a camera for the boat. Once the Irish school receives the supplies their students will start fixing the boat and it is hoped all necessary repairs and refit will be completed in time for the official relaunch in Ireland in late August this year.
