The Role:
Atlantic Technological University wishes to appoint a Centre Manager for its Marine and Freshwater Research Centre at the Galway City Campus. The Centre Manager will collaborate with university colleagues and external partners to manage the centre and contribute to its future development.Â
The Centre Manager will have responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the centre, liaising with centre members including academic, research and technical staff, and postgraduate students.Â
The Centre Manager will report to the Head of Department of Natural Resources and the Environment.Â
Restructuring of the University is envisaged to occur over the next two years to enable the implementation of the Strategic Plan, and therefore the duties and reporting relationships of this post may be impacted by that restructuring.

Reporting to: Head of Department of Natural Resources and the Environment
Minimum Requirements:
- A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, Level 9 or higher on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications, Level 7 or higher on the European Qualifications Framework, or the equivalent.
- Five years’ relevant post-qualification experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of issues affecting marine or freshwater habitats, and awareness of the role of research in addressing them.
- Experience of managing teams and successfully leading complex projects from design to completion.
- Project management experience including devising timelines, action planning, organising and chairing meetings and preparation of reports and presentations.
- Effective interpersonal skills including negotiating, influencing, and building collaborations.
- Excellent skills in oral and written communication and organisation, with demonstratable ability to meet deadlines.
Desirable:
- A relevant qualification at Doctoral Level.
- Leadership experience in the development, implementation, and co-ordination of research.
- Experience of managing resources & budget planning in a work-related context.
- Experience in evaluating stakeholder needs and in developing and delivering relevant responses to those needs.
Duties:
- Co-ordinate the development and implementation of strategic partnerships with academia, industry, and other societal stakeholders, nationally and internationally.
- Map expertise with the MFRC and identify expertise within the university for potential collaboration or alignment with the centre.
- Engage with Research, and Finance functions within the university for project and financial reporting, including preparation of budgetary submissions in line with ongoing and projected activities within the centre.
- Engage with Human Resources regarding staff recruitment.
- Work with Buildings and Estates Office in relation to managing centre facilities and infrastructure/refurbishment projects.
- Develop cost models for access to centre facilities and coordinate access to facilities by external users.
- Provide organisational support for training and career development activities for researchers, including connecting researchers with relevant supports within the university (e.g. IP supports).
- Lead operational support for grant writing and maintenance of the Centre funding/grant application SharePoint.
- Provide logistical and operational support for students and staff in the MFRC, including office/lab accommodation and equipment requirements.
- Liaise with research, finance, and academic management regarding operational support for postgraduate students.
- Manage access, and health and safety aspects of using MFRC facilities, including centre vehicles and out of hours access.
- Support MFRC outreach activities including the MFRC website and social media accounts (with input from research staff).
- Conduct of other appropriate duties as may be assigned from time to time.
The appointee will carry out the lawful instructions of the President, comply with the policies and procedures of the TU and with the requirements and regulations of the Minister.
Salary Scale: €56,369.00 - €61,423.00 (Point 1 – Point 4 Research Fellow IUA Scale)*
*Starting salary is dependent on funding availability & experience and will also be market driven and discipline related.) plus a 20% pension contribution.
Hours of Work: 39 hours per week
Annual Leave: 22 days per annum
