Green Tech Skillsnet Work Placement Survey: Work in Wind & Wind Turbine Technician programmes

Good afternoon from the team at Green Tech Skillnet.

Following the success of the pilot Work in Wind and Wind Turbine Technician training and work placement programmes, Green Tech Skillnet is delighted to announce that we have won funding to run these two programmes again in 2022.

The training for the Wind Turbine Technician and Work in Wind programmes is scheduled to commence in April and May 2022, respectively. We are very grateful to our members who have supported the programmes over the past two years.

Call to Action

In order for us to make the work placement aspect of the programme a valuable experience for both the host companies and the candidates, we are asking member companies to complete this short survey. We would greatly appreciate your insight.

Please see survey here.

Background

In 2021, Green Tech Skillnet launched unique Skills Connect training and work placement programmes for transitioning the unemployed to the renewable energy sector. These suites of programmes were jointly shortlisted as finalists for the IITD Best Talent Development Initiatives for two years in succession.

The Wind Turbine Technician programme delivers a suite of GWO safety and technical certified training, wind sector overview and communication skills workshops. Technicians obtain the certificates required to go out on site after training.

The Work in Wind programme delivers a wide array of training covering the lifecycle of a wind farm, an overview of onshore and offshore wind; grid; policy; planning; markets; community engagement, and environmental impact management. The graduates of the Work in Wind programme also obtain certification in the fundamentals of asset management for wind farms developed by SEAI and WEI stakeholders for ISO 55001 standards.

After completing the training, the students undertake a work placement with a host company. The work placement is designed to give them vital first-hand experience and to demonstrate their skills, to build their network and hopefully, to be the first step in gaining a career in this fast-growing industry.

Green Tech Skillnet thanks you in advance for any insights. Keep an eye out for updates soon.
