Irish-headquartered engineering design and commercial advisory business Insight Marine has opened an office in Belfast to support its expansion in the UK ports, offshore wind and subsea transmission markets.

The company said the new office, located in the Scottish Provident Building in Donegal Square, will be led by Marine & Energy Director Sarah Gibson and Ports Technical Director Diarmuid O’Loan.

Insight Marine added that the UK is a core target market for the business, which launched in June 2026 and is expanding its local presence to support developers, port operators, transmission system operators, contractors and public bodies.

The Belfast operation will be supported by the consultancy’s wider multidisciplinary team in Ireland, with plans to recruit experienced marine engineers and emerging talent.

The expansion follows the UK’s seventh Contracts for Difference auction, AR7, which secured a record 8.4GW of offshore wind capacity in January 2026, with the UK Government estimating the awards will unlock around £22 billion of private investment.

Insight Marine noted that ORE Catapult had identified approximately 17.1GW of potentially eligible offshore wind capacity ahead of the AR8 application window, with industry anticipating circa 7GW of awards.

They added that the anticipated development pipeline presents opportunities across port infrastructure, offshore foundations, subsea cables and electricity transmission.

Insight Marine provides specialist engineering design, offshore project delivery and commercial advisory services, with a focus on managing technical, commercial and delivery risks.

The company also plans to expand its Belfast team to support UK infrastructure programmes and build long-term client relationships.

“Opening our Belfast office is an important step in building Insight Marine’s capacity and demonstrating our commitment to the UK and Northern Ireland markets,” said Insight Marine managing director Paul Doherty.

“With Sarah and Diarmuid leading the office, our plan is to grow a team that responds quickly to clients’ needs and helps them turn investment plans into deliverable projects.”

Sarah Gibson, Insight Marine’s Marine & Energy Director, added that Belfast’s maritime engineering heritage and Northern Ireland’s existing expertise would support the company’s growth plans.

“We want to draw on that experience, create opportunities for local engineers and continue building our team.”

“From our base in the Scottish Provident Building, we will combine local knowledge with Insight Marine’s wider expertise to provide practical, responsive support for clients across ports, offshore wind and subsea infrastructure.”
