As demand for aquatic foods continues to grow globally, and with the world population expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, it is important to understand what causes FLW and to apply solutions to reduce its impact.
Food loss and waste occurs at all levels of the fisheries and aquaculture value chain. Understanding why and identifying where food loss and food waste happens is crucial in arming decision-makers with information that can reduce and prevent it. Reducing FLW is becoming increasingly more important as demand for fish as food increases.
