Vacancy | Graduate Field Scientist, AQUAFACT

Are you a recent marine science or ecology graduate looking to build your career in environmental consultancy? Do you want to spend time in the field, working across marine and freshwater environments? Are you keen to develop practical survey skills and build experience across a range of projects?

AQUAFACT (part of the APEM Group) is looking for a Graduate Field Scientist to join our field team, supporting environmental surveys across Ireland. You’ll support a varied programme of marine, freshwater and terrestrial fieldwork, from coastal and freshwater monitoring to benthic surveys, sediment sampling and offshore environmental surveys. Alongside fieldwork, you’ll support laboratory activities, data processing and the preparation of information for reports.

As you develop, you’ll become confident using a range of environmental sampling equipment and survey techniques, while building your understanding of how environmental data is collected, processed and used to support real-world projects, and working closely with experienced field scientists and colleagues across AQUAFACT’s consultancy and laboratory teams.

This is a great opportunity for an early career marine scientist with an interest in field work, data collection and marine ecology. This role will involve extensive travel across Ireland, as well as some unsociable hours.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

Essential

  • Relevant third level Degree (Level 8 or higher) in marine ecology/biology or related discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • IT literacy
  • Ability to work well in teams, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Driving Licence.
  • Experience in data management, including data entry, quality control, validation, and record keeping.

Desirable

  • Seagoing experience.
  • ISA Commercial Endorsement for Passenger Vessel.
  • Membership of a professional body.
  • Experience of marine sampling techniques.
  • Towing licence (Category BE).
  • STCW Sea Survival Qualification.
