Aqualicense are welcoming applications for the role of GIS Technical Lead.

Aqualicense are currently seeking a suitably qualified GIS professional. The role will be focused on the delivery of marine based projects. Project types will range from Offshore Renewable Energy to Aquaculture in both Irish and international waters.

As the candidate grows into the role, they will also be expected to assist in management of overall project delivery and development of in-house tools and applications. This is a technical role, reporting to the company Environmental Director.

This role will be a mix of work planning, execution and management, and the office- based systems development.
Aqualicense offer hybrid working arrangements with the office-based portion of the role at our Galway office.

Requirements

  • Interested in and passionate about environmental data and the offshore marine environment.
  • Have applied knowledge in using desktop and web GIS technologies for data managment, visualisation, spatial analysis (ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, QGIS or similar)
  • Have had exposure to and experience with
    • spatial databases
    • SQL quering
    • data management
    • quality control
    • data extraction techniques
    • processing
    • statistical analysis
  • An awareness of technological advances and industry trends related to GIS as applied to marine environments.
  • Asset mapping, curation and spatial analysis using ArcGIS Desktop.
  • WebApp development, Widget Modification, Data Management within AGOL.
  • Continuous maintenance of existing web GIS applications (ArcGIS Online).
  • Continuous maintenance of client interface accounts on GIS Cloud.
  • Producing catchment-based assessments for reporting (buffered areas using environmental and other data to produce baselines and interpretive analysis, etc.)
  • Conducting SQL analysis of larger databases (GeoDirectory, POWSCAR).
  • Creation, geocoding, cleaning and maintenance of spatial datasets.
  • Using geo-processing tools to examine datasets, create new information or investigate patterns.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to prepare succinct narrative analysis of findings; including associated tables, charts, infographics, etc.

  • Ability to and interest in mentoring fellow staff on GIS applications and tool development

Qualifications and Experience

  • Hold a degree qualification in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) an an equivalent qualification that has GIS/Geospatial assessment as a significant component.
  • Minimum of 8 years post graduate experience.
  • Proficient in the use of the English language.
