Ocean Hackathon 2026

Cork County Council is Ireland’s second‑largest local authority, covering the country’s biggest geographic area and coastline. With 360,152 residents and 2,700 staff, it oversees 10 electoral areas and 8 municipal districts, many coastal. Cork’s 1,100km shoreline includes 23 islands and supports major marine life, tourism, fisheries, and nationally important infrastructure such as the Port of Cork and energy facilities. UCC’s Sustainability Institute leads research on climate, circular economy and environmental health, hosting the LIR National Ocean Test Facility, Ireland’s premier centre for testing offshore renewable and marine technologies.

In this edition, the challenges selected to participate in the 2026 Ocean Hackathon® in Cork must focus on biodiversity and coastal resilience.
