MarLEN, 3rd Joint Mobilisation and Mutual Learning Workshop on Ferries

APRE – Agency for the Promotion of European Research and the Waterborne Technology Platform , within the framework of the MarLEN Project, are organising the third Joint Mobilisation and Mutual Learning Workshop dedicated to Ferries. The online event will take place on Thuesday, 27 October 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM CEST via Microsoft Teams.

The workshop is part of a series of six joint events aligned with the Zero Emission Waterborne Transport Partnership (ZEWT) Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and its implementation pathways, covering different ship types and supporting the transition towards zero-emission waterborne transport. Following the first and second workshops focused on Inland Waterway Transport and Short Sea Shipping, this third edition will explore challenges, opportunities and solutions related to ferries.

The workshop will open with the presentation of the MarLEN project and the objectives of the Zero Emission Waterborne Transport Partnership (ZEWT), followed by best practices from the ferries sector, which will share their experiences, barriers, and success factors with the audience. In the final session, participants will engage in an interactive co‑creation moment aimed at exchanging perspectives and analysing challenges, solutions, and opportunities, exploring the policy, economic, technological, and social dimensions of ferries. The contributions collected will help define and inform operational recommendations for the sector.

The event will be held online in English and is addressed to representatives from ferries and shipping companies, ports, investors, research centres, industries, start‑ups, and solution developers working on sustainable innovation in maritime transport.
