International Forum on Bycatch of Marine Megafauna (IFBMM)
Taking place on 12–15 October 2027 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, the International Forum on Bycatch of Marine Megafauna (IFBMM) welcomes anyone who wants to play a part in finding the most practical ways for fisheries to thrive while avoiding the accidental capture of seabirds, marine mammals, turtles, sharks, skates, and rays.
Through an inspiring mix of keynote talks, presentations, panels, posters, workshops and an exhibition, we’ll cover marine megafauna bycatch from top to bottom. Our programme themes are:
- Understanding bycatch drivers, patterns and impacts
- Monitoring, data collection and emerging technologies
- Mitigation – gear innovation and best practices
- Avoidance – spatial and fishery management approaches
- Co-developing solutions with industry, fishers and local communities
- Policy, governance and international frameworks
- From science to practice – case studies, communication, and capacity building
Whatever your job and background, and wherever in the world you are, if you want to be involved in finding solutions to bycatch then we want you at the IFBMM!
Abstracts for presentations, workshops, and posters can be submitted from today until 31 January 2027. Registration for the IFBMM closes on 10 September 2027.
