As an island nation we have a deep-rooted love of and interest in the sea, in the maritime sector is of fundamental importance to the Irish economy now and into the future. With 85% of the goods traded in Ireland transported by sea, our shipping industry and ports sector play a vital role. Our ferries are also important in terms of connectivity for people and goods, as demonstrated by Brexit.

Ireland is a country of opportunity when it comes to the blue economy and indeed offshore renewable energy is an emerging sector in the maritime industry. Many of our export markets including pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, medical devices and computer services are intrinsically connected to the existing and emerging marine sectors which have long attracted many high-performing industries and multinational companies to Ireland.

Irish sailing punches well above its weight internationally having staged some of the world’s top events. Both sailing and cruising make a very important contribution to Irish life and the economy.

The National Maritime Gala Ball, in association with MIIN and the Irish Chamber of Shipping, is the event of the season and will be a celebration of both individuals and organisations from across the entire sector. The highly-anticipated event will be held at  The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin on Friday 19th May 2023, starting at 7pm

The event will feature a drinks Reception on arrival, a 4-course meal and networking with peers and industry leaders late into the night.
